What is learner motorbike insurance?

With learner motorbike insurance you get the insurance you need while learning to ride a motorbike. It’s a flexible insurance option designed to fit around your schedule and how often you ride.

When you’re learning to ride, don’t worry about long term insurance, find a policy to suit your situation with learner motorcycle insurance.

Get cover from just one day up to one week, so you only pay for when you actually riding and get fully comprehensive cover as standard on every policy for complete peace of mind on the road.

As you start learning to ride a motorbike, you’ll be incredibly keen to get going. Insuring a bike before passing your test is the best way to get that crucial practice before passing each stage of getting your motorbike licence.

You’ll need to do lots of training and pass all your exams before getting your full license. And if you’re using your own motorbike, borrowing one from a friend or family member, and not one that belongs to your riding school, you’ll need learner motorbike insurance.

How do you learn to ride a motorbike?

Motorbikes are hugely popular for many reasons. Not only do more powerful models make for an exhilarating ride, but you can learn to drive those with smaller engines – like mopeds – from the age of 16. That’s a year earlier than the legal limit for driving in a car.

Learning to drive a motorbike is very different to the way you learn to drive a car. That’s because it’s not possible to have someone instructing you and helping you control the vehicle; you’re out there on their own.

Before you can ride a motorbike, you’ll need a provisional driving license with motorcycle entitlement. You then need to complete a compulsory basic training course (CBT) at a riding school.

After that, you’ll be free to ride your motorbike out on the roads with L-plates – though there are some exclusions subject to your age and engine size, and you can’t go on motorways. You can only remove the L-plates once you pass your full, practical test.

After completing your CBT, but before passing your full test, you’ll need to get learner motorcycle insurance.

How long should my learner motorcycle insurance last?

If you’re keen to pass as quickly as possible, you’ll be a learner for a few days or weeks at most, so it makes a lot of sense to take out a temporary policy for the time being. You can put a more permanent arrangement in place once you pass and are likely to be quoted lower premiums at that point.

With our short term cover, you can choose from flexible options like >one day motorbike insurance and one week motorbike insurance. These give you the freedom you need to get vital on-road experience before your test.

With biking, the type and power of the model you’ll drive will play a large part. But lots of other factors will be considered too, including:

If you have the opportunity to play this game of life you need to appreciate every moment. A lot of people don’t appreciate the moment until it’s passed.

It really matters and then like it really doesn’t matter. What matters is the people who are sparked by it. And the people who are like offended by it, it doesn’t matter.
